Kristopher Carr of Monson was arraigned on charges of motor vehicle homicide, operating under the influence, and recklessness in the Oct. 29, 2021 crash, the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office said. A judge ordered him held on a $5,000 bail, but he isn't allowed to drive and must take random alcohol tests as a condition of his pre-trial release.

According to investigators, Carr had six or seven alcoholic drinks in Boston before he drove his 2020 Ford Explorer into a median on I-93 around 1:30 a.m. Christophe Zike crashed his motorcycle into the SUV as it blocked two southbound lanes of the highway. Responders rushed Zike to Boston Memorial, but doctors couldn't save his life.

Carr and a female passenger had minor injuries from the crash, police said. Detectives who spoke with the trooper that night said his eyes were glassy, and he spoke with a "heavy tongue," according to the prosecutor.

“As a member of law enforcement, Kristopher Carr had first-hand knowledge of the consequences that can result from driving drunk," Suffolk County District Attorney Kevin Hayden said. "That he chose to ignore those consequences cost Christopher Zike his life."

Carr graduated from the State Police academy a week before the wreck.
